Roger Williams is set to host a media symposium this Columbus Day Weekend, an exploration of new media brought about by new technology. Presentations, hands-on workshops, dancers, singers and more are all scheduled for the symposium. It happens Saturday and Sunday at the New Academic Building. Waterfire will take on special meaning Saturday when the Providence attraction lights up for Flames of Hope, an event to benefit breast cancer research. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event starts at 5:30 at the State House.

Gambling could become an all-night affair in Rhode Island if one state legislator has his way. Sen. Paul Moura is set to introduce legislation that would allow 24-hour gambling at Newport Grand and Lincoln’s Twin River.

Embattled Idaho Sen. Larry Craig has vowed to finish his term in office, despite mounting political pressure to resign. Thursday, Craig said he believes he can still do his job. In June, he was arrested in a men’s room at a Mineapolis airport for allegedly seeking sex.

Olympic gold-medalist Marion Jones admits to using steroids before the 2000 Olympic games. Jones said she will plead guilty Friday to two counts of lying to federal agents about the drug use. She could lose the five medals she won in Sydney, Australia.
